Canadian soprano Daniela Agostino is known as a “bright and agile soprano” (Stage Door) and is hailed for her “soaring and lively” voice (Opera Canada). She holds a Masters degree in Performance and Literature from Western University, where she studied with soprano Jackalyn Short. During her studies, she played Gretel from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She was the winner of The London Opera Guilds Scholarship in 2017 and most recently was seen as a finalist at the National Capital Opera Competition in Ottawa, Ontario. Daniela was awarded the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation Scholarship for the production of performance videos.
Recent professional highlights include Gertrude Stein in The Mother of us All (Voicebox: Opera in Concert), Festa in the Canadian premiere A Northern Light’s Dream (Toronto Operetta Theatre), Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Southern Ontario Lyric Opera), Valencienne in The Merry Widow (BROTT Opera, Toronto Operetta Theatre), La bergère, une pastourelle, la chouette and la chauve-souris in L’enfant et les sortilèges and Aunt Angelique in Kamouraska (Voicebox: Opera in Concert), Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Opera York), and Arsena in Die Zigeunerbaron (Toronto Operetta Theatre). Last season, Daniela returned to Southern Ontario Lyric Opera in 2023 to sing Annina in La Traviata. She looks forward to debuting with the York Symphony Orchestra, and will be joining the ensemble for the Toronto premier of Vavrek and Du Yun’s Angel’s Bone in 2024. Daniela currently studies with American soprano, Corinne Winters.
