Canadian born soprano, Alexa Frankian is of German, East Indian, Armenian Lebanese, Egyptian and Syrian descent, and feels the magic of many nations run through her blood.
A long-time member of the Canadian Children’s Opera Company Alexa recently performed and recorded the role of Kwanyin the Golden Fish, in the world premiere of Alice Ho’s opera The Monkiest King and was described as having a voice that was “…already the richest and strongest of the principals and one looks forward to seeing how it will develop in future.” (Stage-Door). Other credits with the CCOC include the role of The Queen in Richard Rodney Bennett’s opera All the King’s Men, the Elf Maiden Lasslind and Laketown Crier in Dean Burry’s opera The Hobbit, and as part of the Chorus of Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera Chip and his Dog. At the CCOC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert at Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts she sang Carmen solos alongside celebrated Canadian baritone Ted Baerg. With the Southern Ontario Lyric Opera, Alexa has performed in the chorus of productions of La Traviata, Pagliacci, La Boheme, and played the role of the Shepherd Boy in Tosca. Alexa has been a featured soloist with the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra at their 2016 Winterlude III Concert.
Alexa lends her voice to support numerous fundraising initiatives and has been able to give back to her community with her voice, performing in Canada and the US. Mostly recently she performed at the Milton Italia Fest 50th Anniversary Celebration, Milton District Hospital Foundation – Winning for Health Gala, The Pack a Bag for a Friend Foundation, The 519 – Toronto Aids Candlelight Vigil, Atlanta Georgia Aids Walk, CCOC’s OPERAthon Finale at the Toronto Distillery District Christmas Market – Alumni Performer, and the Milton Italia Fest Fundraiser in support of Kid’s Mental Health.
Alexa has studied in Canada, the United States with Dr. Victoria Holland and in Italy at the Corsi Internazionali di Interpretazione Musicale, Roma – Canto Lirico Program, and has trained at Opera NUOVA, The Royal Conservatory of Music and the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy. She is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music in Performance program at the University of Toronto where she studies with Elizabeth McDonald. A multiple prize-winner, Alexa received top awards at the Toronto, Peel, Kiwanis Music Festivals and the Burlington and Milton Music Festivals. She is a recipient of the Kiwanis, Peel, Burlington and Milton Music Festival Scholarship and the Anna Margaret Wallace & William Alexander McCoy Scholarship from the University of Toronto.
