SUMMARY:Rigoletto
DESCRIPTION:SOLO opens its season with Verdi’s impassioned Rigoletto\, the heart-breaking story of an over-protective father whose only beloved daughter is tragically swept off her feet by a womanizing Duke. \nRigoletto is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the play Le roi s’amuse by Victor Hugo. Despite serious initial problems with the Austrian censors who had control over northern Italian theatres at the time\, the opera had a triumphant premiere at La Fenice in Venice on 11 March 1851. \nIt is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-to-late career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua\, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto\, and Rigoletto’s beautiful daughter Gilda. The opera’s original title\, La maledizione (The Curse)\, refers to a curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter the Duke has seduced with Rigoletto’s encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices her life to save him from assassins hired by her father. \nPlease see below for the most up to date information on cast and tickets for Rigoletto. \nCAST \n\n\n\nDuke of Mantua\nRomulo Delgado\n\n\nRigoletto\nJeffrey Carl\n\n\nGilda\nAllison Cecilia Arends\n\n\nMonterone\nMichael Robert-Broder\n\n\nSparafucile\nMikhail Shemet\n\n\nMaddalena\nAdriana Albu\n\n\nMarullo\nRyan Hofman\n\n\nBorsa\nCorey Arnold\n\n\nGiovanna\nJanet Brown-McIsaac\n\n\nCountess Ceprano\nJanet Brown-McIsaac\n\n\nCount Ceprano\nAustin Larusson\n\n\nA Page\nBeau Kowanetz\n\n\nUsher\nBlake Woodside\n\n\n\nRegular all-in price: $55-$65\nSeniors 65+ all-in price: $40\nStudents (19 and under) all-in price: $20 \nTo purchase tickets please call the Burlington Performing Arts Centre at 905-681-6000 or click here.
