SUMMARY:Verdi's Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Verdi’s Requiem: one of the most dramatic\, and undoubtedly the most operatic\, of its type ever composed.  Any performance of the Verdi Requiem is always a grand occasion. So to get you in the spirit\, here’s a quick guide to this unique work… \n  \nHow did Verdi come to write his Requiem? \nInitially\, it was the death of Rossini in November 1868. Verdi and several other Italian composers wanted to mark the event by joining forces in writing a collaborative Requiem for the great man – Verdi wrote the Libera Me movement. The resulting work was not a success\, though\, and was soon abandoned. \nAnd then…? \nIn 1873\, Verdi was moved by the death of Alessandro Manzoni to write a complete Requiem by himself. For it\, he retained the ‘Libera Me’ from the collaborative effort of five years earlier. His new work was first performed in Milan in May 1874 and soon enjoyed further performances across Europe. \nSOLOISTS \n\n\n\nSOPRANO\nSUSAN TSAGKARIS\n\n\nMEZZO-SOPRANO\nKRISTINE DANDAVINO\n\n\nTENOR\nKURT LEHMAN\n\n\nBASS\nCHAD LOUWERSE

SUMMARY:Verdi's Requiem - Postponed until further notice
His new work was first performed in Milan in May 1874\, and soon enjoyed further performances across Europe \nSOLOISTS \n\n\n\nSOPRANO\nERIN WALL\n\n\nMEZZO-SOPRANO\nKRISTINE DANDAVINO\n\n\nTENOR\nROMULO DELGADO\n\n\nBASS\nCHAD LOUWERSE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegular all-in price: $65 \nSeniors 65+ all-in price: $40\nStudents (19 and under) all-in price: $20 \nTo purchase tickets please call the Burlington Performing Arts Centre at 905-681-6000 or click here.

SUMMARY:Hansel & Gretel
DESCRIPTION:Our abridged version of Hansel and Gretel\, which close to 600 students experienced on October 19th  was about a 40-minute presentation compared to the original which lasts about 2 ½ hours. You might say it’s the “Reader’s Digest” version. The main characters and elements of the story were included and the drama was presented seamlessly\, capturing in full the story and spirit of the complete opera.

SUMMARY:The Marriage of Figaro
DESCRIPTION:The Marriage of Figaro continues the plot of The Barber of Seville several years later and recounts a single “day of madness” (la folle journée) in the palace of Count Almaviva near Seville\, Spain. Rosina is now the Countess; Dr. Bartolo is seeking revenge against Figaro for thwarting his plans to marry Rosina himself; and Count Almaviva has degenerated from the romantic youth of Barber into a scheming\, bullying\, skirt-chasing baritone. Having gratefully given Figaro a job as head of his servant-staff\, he is now persistently trying to exercise his droit du seigneur – his right to bed a servant girl on her wedding night – with Figaro’s bride-to-be\, Susanna\, who is the Countess’s maid. He keeps finding excuses to delay the civil part of the wedding of his two servants\, which is arranged for this very day. Figaro\, Susanna\, and the Countess conspire to embarrass the Count and expose his scheming. He retaliates by trying to compel Figaro legally to marry a woman old enough to be his mother\, but it turns out at the last minute that she really is his mother. Through Figaro’s and Susanna’s clever manipulations\, the Count’s love for his Countess is finally restored. \nCAST \n\n\n\nCountess Almaviva\nNatalya Gennadi\n\n\nCount Almaviva\nMichael Robert-Broder\n\n\nSusanna\nVanessa Oude-Reimerink\n\n\nFigaro\nClarence Frazer\n\n\nCherubino\nMarjorie Maltais\n\n\nDr. Bartolo/Antonio\nAustin Larusson\n\n\nMarcellina\nLouisa Cowie\n\n\nDon Curzio/Don Basilio\nConlan Gassi\n\n\nBarbarina\nDaniela Agostino\n\n\nVillage Girl\nCarla Onorato\n\n\nVillage Girl\nJanet Brown-MsIsaac\n\n\n\nCREW \n\n\n\nStage Director\nVincent Thomas\n\n\nSet Design\nTBD\n\n\nStage Manager\nTBD\n\n\nLighting Designer\nTBD\n\n\nCostume Designer\nGerrit  Jan Seppenwoolde (2nd Act)\n\n\nRehearsal Pianist\nTBD\n\n\nSupertitles\nTBD\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegular all-in price: $65\nSeniors 65+ all-in price: $40\nStudents (19 and under) all-in price: $20 \nTo purchase tickets please call the Burlington Performing Arts Centre at 905-681-6000 or click here.
