A two-time finalist in the National Capital Opera Society’s Brian Law Opera Competition, Canadian baritone Ryan Hofman is gaining recognition for his warm, resonant voice and thoughtful dramatic and musical interpretations. Equally at home on the operatic and concert stages, he continues to build a diverse repertoire with companies and ensembles across Ontario and beyond.
Ryan is thrilled to be returning to Southern Ontario Lyric Opera following his appearances as the Sacristan/Sciarrone in Puccini’s Tosca. Recent concert engagements have included Duruflé’s Requiem with Ottawa Choral Workshops, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, and Dvořák’s Te Deum with Coro Vivo Ottawa. His 2025–2026 season also included company debuts with RESOUND Choir in Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, the Guelph Chamber Choir in Fauré’s Requiem, and the Georgian Bay Concert Choir in Mozart’s Requiem, with whom he returns in November 2026.
On the operatic stage, recent highlights include Dr. Engel in The Student Prince with Toronto Operetta Theatre and Rambaldo in Puccini’s La Rondine with VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert. Ryan also self-produced and appeared as Schaunard in La Bohème on Draft at Toronto’s Redwood Theatre, presented in collaboration with the Daily Bread Food Bank—an initiative combining professional opera with community engagement and charitable impact. This past May, he also produced a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, while raising awareness for the Redwood Women’s Shelter.
Ryan’s 2026–2027 season continues with several notable engagements, including a return to Southern Ontario Lyric Opera, Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony with North Bay Symphony (company debut) in April 2027, and the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Oxford Collegium Singers (company debut) in May 2027.
As audiences continue to respond to his distinctive baritone and committed storytelling, Ryan is establishing himself as a versatile singing artist whose work spans opera, oratorio, and concert repertoire.
