Norman E. Brown

norman-e-brown-headshotNorman has an extensive singing career performing as soloist in opera, oratorio and in concert across Canada, in the United States and in Europe.  Norman is a regular performer in Italy performing in concerts of sacred music and in operas.  Norman spent the summer of 2015 in Lucca (Italy) singing the roles of Don Magnifico in Rossini’s opera “Cenerentola” and The Speaker-Sarastro in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” with Accademia Europea dell’Opera. Norman returned to Lucca Italy in 2016 as Assistant Conductor on “Cosi fan tutte” and “Suor Angelica”, and spent the month of June singing the roles of Sharpless and Bonze in Puccini’s opera “Madama Butterfly” with the Stara Zagora State Opera, Bulgaria. Norman will return to Stara Zagora State Opera in 2017 to sing the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”.

Norman has and continues to perform extensively in the Greater Toronto Area singing as soloist with Opera in Concert, Toronto Opera Repertoire, Opera By Request, Tryptych Opera & Concert, York Opera, No Strings Theatre, Cosmopolitan Opera, Summer Festival – Opera, Hamilton, Toronto Chamber  Players, Toronto Concert Singers, Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, Mississauga Choral Society, to name a few.

Since his arrival in Ottawa in 1990 Norman has performed as soloist with North Grenville Concert Choir, Cantata Singers, Centennial Choir, Ottawa Choral Society, National Arts Centre Orchestra,  Kanata Symphony, Ottawa Chamber Orchestra, Divertimento Orchestra, Opera Lyra,  Pellegrini Opera, Operatunities, Opera Breva, CAMMAC (“Messiah”), University of Ottawa Choir and Orchestra, Coro Vivo, Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Men & Boys, Sacred Music Society & Sinfonia Sacra, Ontario Opera Co-operative, OperOttawa, Ottawa Baroque Opera Ensemble and L’Orchestre de Gatineau/Hull.

Future engagements include: singing the role of Oroveso in Bellini’s “Norma” in Ottawa and Montreal.  concert recitals in Ottawa and Toronto, performing in the opera “Amahl & the Night Visitors” by Menotti with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra; and singing the role of the Sorceress in Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas” with OperOttawa.

In  his leisure time Norman  freelances with local orchestras on violin & viola, is an avid artist, and plays competitive squash.
