Toronto-born Canadian/British baritone and Canada Council winner Jeffrey Carl has performed over 35 lead roles in Europe, North and South America, as well as oratorio (Carmina Burana in particular) and song recitals across the World.
Baritone roles in opera, include Tosca, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Otello, Aïda, La Traviata, Un Ballo in Maschera, Macbeth, Falstaff (Ford), I Vespri Siciliani, La Forza del Destino, Nabucco, La Bohème, Hérodiade, Madama Butterfly, Hamlet, Don Giovanni, Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, The Rake’s Progress live for RAI 2, (Modena, Reggio Emiglia, Pesaro, Pisa, Ravenna, Ferrara, Livorno, Jesi,) Turandot Teatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro, in Cyprus Caterina Cornaro, a Gala at the Megaron Athens, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, and a Verdi Centenary Concert, with Richard Margison, in Toronto.
In Canada, he created roles in two world-première operas by Harry Somers/La Serinette (CBC) and In Search of Zoroaster, by R. Murray Schafer. In London he created 3 roles in Havergal Brian’s The Cenci, Royal Festival Hall (BBC).
Recordings include Richard Bonynge’s Giuditta (2 roles) Hadley/Riedel, and The Czarevich Gustafson TELARC, Lusignano in Donizetti’s Caterina Cornaro Migenes/Bonynge London (live) and a solo disc ‘Arias’/National Opera Orchestra of Moldova/Dohotaru.
He recently made his Rigoletto debut under Maestro Vito Lo Re, from Milan, Pellegrini Opera, reprised Germont, with the new Southern Ontario Lyric Opera, receiving very high praise from Opera Canada, Tosca (Ottawa Brousseau), the Mozart Requiem at the Montreal Basilique, made his Maison Symphonique debut in Montreal (Carmina Burana, Brousseau), and debuted in Il Tabarro this June in the inaugural production of Opera Niagara, opposite MET soprano Aprile Millo. He was personally invited to sing by Mlle Millo, with her, in her Verdi D’Oro Prize gala in the Teatro Verdi in Busseto, and has consequently, just made his Cadogan Hall debut with her in London.
He next makes his city debut in concerts in NY and Vienna.
