This warm and charming Canadian baritone is abundantly talented with a natural affinity for stage work.
Always the entertainer, Douglas has performed numerous roles with Opera York, Opera Mississauga, Brampton Lyric Opera, Opera Kitchener, Toronto Operetta Theater, Scarborough Gilbert and Sullivan Society, WaveStage Theater and others.
Opera Canada has described his performances as ‘scene stealing’ and the Ontario Arts Review wrote ‘The rich baritone voice of Douglas Tranquada was almost overshadowed by his arrogantly strutting before and among his audience as he gave one outstanding rendition of the ‘Largo al factotum’ including the Holders Season Arts Festival in Barbados in March of 2011.
2014 was a very busy year for him, playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof with Wavestage, Leporello in Don Giovanni with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony, Basilio in The Barber of Seville with Opera York and Henry Higgins in the TDCSB Staff Arts production of My Fair Lady.
In 2015-2016, he performed Papageno with Opera York in the Magic Flute, Schaunard in La Boheme with Opera Belcanto of York and the title role of Gianni Schicchi in another collaboration with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony and Tryptych. Additionally, he was the baritone soloist for the Choral Works performance of Messiah in Collingwood.
Most recently he was seen as the Sacristan in Opera York’s Tosca production in November of 2016 and is happy ro reprise the role with Southern Ontario Lyric Opera in March 2017.
Douglas is scheduled to perform Requiems by Faure and Mozart in March 2017 and in May, he looks forward to collaborating again with ChoralWorks in performing Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass.
He was honored to participate in the 2016 NBA All Star weekend, singing the anthems for the Rising Stars Challenge game and in March of 2016, he travelled to Italy as an Associate Director of a 40 person choral ensemble. In December of 2016, he sang the Canadian anthem to open the World Junior Hockey Tournament.
Mr. Tranquada is a regular performer of national anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays, Raptors905, Toronto FC and Toronto Marlies and director of a church choir in Mississauga.
