Canadian tenor David Pomeroy is enjoying a career that is placing him in the spotlight on some of the world’s most important stages. The Newfoundland native made his Metropolitan Opera House debut in the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann, opposite soprano Anna Netrebko under the baton of James Levine. Mr. Pomeroy had sung the title role of Faust with bass James Morris in the annual “Met in the Parks” concert series and later reprised the role on the MET stage.
With the Canadian Opera Company COC he has performed the title roles of Faust and Hoffmann as well as Rodolfo (La Bohème), Skuratov (From the House of the Dead), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Alfred (Die Fledermaus). Mr. Pomeroy created the role of Stefano for the successful world premiere of Filumena with Calgary Opera and proceeded to perform remounts in Banff, Ottawa and Edmonton (currently available on DVD).In the 2015/2016, Mr. Pomeroy was seen as Paul in Die Tote Stadt in both Frankfurt and Calgary, Don José in Carmen for both COC and Opera Australia and finally Henri in Les vêpres siciliennes with the Royal Danish Opera. His concert appearances included Mahler’s 8th Symphony with Calgary Philharmonic, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Vancouver Symphony, Messiah with Newfoundland Symphony and Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass with Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.In 2017 David has performed Calaf in Turandot in both Edmonton and Calgary, Madama Butterfly in Manitoba, Braunfel’s Te Deum with the Warsaw National Philharmonic, Florestan in Fidelio and the title of Wagner’s Tannhäuser in new productions for Oper Köln.Future 2018 engagements include Bravissimo Gala in Toronto, Aida in Seattle, Peter Grimes with Tovey and VSO, Carmen at the Bregenz Summer Festival, Turandot in New Orleans, Die Tote Stadt with Semperoper Dresden and Ariadne in Stuttgart.
