About Us

Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (SOLO), is a young, vibrant and dynamic Opera company, recently launched to bring the rich musical and visual tapestry of opera to communities within Southern Ontario.

Since its formation in 2015, our chorus has appeared in numerous concerts and community events, including: a flash mob at the Festitalia Italian Heritage Awards; at concerts in Hamilton and Burlington; and at Villa Italia in Hamilton, as part of our outreach programme.  In 2016, the chorus returned to Villa Italia to perform an Easter Concert, and also participated in a Concert for Syrian refugees, in Hamilton.

SOLO is now focused on even more ambitious and exciting goals.  On September 17, 2016, we will present our first partially staged opera, “La Traviata”, at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, to be followed, in March of 2017, by a production of “Tosca”.  Please click here for ticket prices and information.

Other future initiatives include: education programmes in the form of interactive lectures and informal talks; youth and senior programmes; and community involvement and outreach.

Our ultimate goal is to create a very special, inclusive and affordable experience, while resolving the sad decline of opera within the community of late.
